Bypass or Buy - The Strong Roots Line

I remember growing up as a vegetarian, things were not easy for me. This was long before the days of Beyond Meat or good quality, frozen take home meals. I ate a lot of canned beans you guys and a lot of uninspired dishes at restaurants that offered one veggie option amidst a sea of meat.

When I started this blog, one of the things I wanted to do was try everything out there so that I could share my thoughts / opinions and hopefully help someone else who was just starting out. If I could help you avoid spending money on a product that just wasn't great, that was my intention.

Here we are today, with a plethora of options now available to us. Today's spotlight is on the STRONG ROOTS Line of frozen take-home meals.

STRONG ROOTS

Strong Roots is a proud, Irish company that focuses on fresh produce frozen for our enjoyment. The ingredients are of the freshest variety with a focus on sustainability. Their product line is entirely vegan with a range of products from frozen, take home dinners, to crispy, plant-based & vegetable nuggies. When I spotted their line, I snatched a box and after trying it, went back and grabbed every other frozen meal that they had. As someone who lived in Ireland for just about 2 years, I felt a special connection to a proud, Irish & vegan product line.

THE DINNERS

* White Bean & Lentil Tomato Stew
* Black Dahl
* Thai Green Veg Curry
* Mediterranean Orzo Bake
* Veggie Masala

It's not often that every single product from the line is a winner, but such is the case with the Strong Roots line. I loved that each one tasted fresh and delicious with their own unique flavours. I also really liked the ingredients in the dinners. No scary preservatives or heaps of unnecessary sodium, which is always a problem with frozen meals. Each dinner provides a great amount of fiber with minimal calories, fat, or sodium. Indicative of quality eats.

With a focus on quality, these dinners really hit the mark. I think my two favourites from the group were the Thai Green Vegetable Curry and the Black Dahl, but I also absolutely loved the other three. As I said, they were super flavourful despite being lower in sodium which was awesome to me.

Each dish has a unique composition of ingredients that really shines individually. The curry has such a robust flavour and the dahl was seasoned to perfection. I loved the olives in the Mediterranean bake providing a bit of a salty punch with every bite.  Honestly guys, I couldn't find a single thing wrong with any of them if I tried.

Please disregard the poor lighting in the photos below. They were both taken at night and the lighting is pretty horrendous. On the left, we're looking at the White Ban & Tomato Lentil Stew. Loaded with protein packed beans & lentils, it was light but also super delicious. On the right, the Black Lentil Dahl. The colour of the dahl was striking and as you can see, it too was chalk full of protein packed ingredients that also provided a good amount of fiber.

BYPASS or BUY

BUY BUY BUY! As I said, it's not often that the entire line hits it out of the park, but these dinners were fabulous! I do a lot of my own cooking, but knowing that there's a good quality, nutritious frozen option available to me is absolutely wonderful. I currently have two of them in my freezer and I expect I'll always have one or two in the freezer for those nights where I just want something quick, or an easy meal to bring a long with me to work.

Don't miss out on this line, trust me! I'm keeping my eyes out for the rest of their products which I hope to source sometime soon. Their vegan mac and plant-based nuggies are on my radar. I linked their page below! Take a peek at their website, learn about their history / story, and peep their products / availability. Honestly such a fabulous line you guys!
