Lightlife - Smart Bacon

I'm going to be honest with you guys, I did not have high hopes for this one. I've only ever tried plant-based bacon once from a different brand and it was a horrid experience. With that being said, I was still willing to give it a go.

Needless to say, this was a total flop. As soon as I took the bacon out of the package, I knew I was not going to like it. First of all, it was slimy. Not a vibe. Second of all, the slices didn't even come apart. As I tried to separate them, they were just breaking in to chunks. They looked like plant-based lunch meat, not bacon, and they stunk like hot dog water. Honestly, I didn't even attempt to eat them, I was so put off lol These are a BYPASS for sure.

Beyond Meat - Steak Tips

I haven't eaten meat in over 23 years, so I wasn't really sure what I'd think about these as I had absolutely no memory of the flavour of steak. Out of the package, they really didn't look exceptional if I'm being honest, but they did have a meaty smell which provided hope that they wouldn't be awful.

After frying them up for my flatbread, admittedly, they looked a lot like pieces of meat. They had a meaty texture and appearance and as I mentioned, definitely had a meaty smell. I wasn't too keen on the texture after trying a piece, but after assembling and trying my flatbread, they were a win. I enjoyed the texture and flavour when combined with everything else I was eating and I'd definitely recommend them.

At the time, I couldn't say for sure whether I thought they tasted like steak, but my meat eating father said that they definitely tasted like the steak they were trying to imitate. I guess that means they were pretty bang on. These are definitely a BUY and I can't wait to try them in other recipes!
