Every person I ask this question to is always on one side or the other, there apparently is no in between.
"Raw Onions in salad, yay or nay?" Growing up, it was up to me to make the salads in our house or we generally didn't have them. There were countless times I would make a beautiful salad and everyone would be hesitant. It didn't click in that not everyone has a preference to raw onion. Personally, I love raw onion in or on a variety of dishes. Salads are just one of the many meals that benefit from a garnish of raw onion. Just a note to avoid the awkwardness of people hesitantly eating a dish you laboured over and presented beautifully, serve the onions on the side. Slice them up and serve them on a nice plate on the side of the salad, this way those who enjoy the flavour and crispiness of the onion can simply add it on their own. This goes for any dish that you may personally enjoy raw onions on, chili veggie dogs, veggie burgers, tacos, just for examples. Save yourself the grief and keep them on the side. Everyone wins!
