Animal News recap - Episode 9

B.C. Chicken Farm Exposed for Gruesome Animal Cruelty - This is the third B.C. chicken farm to be exposed in under a year for animal cruelty. Chickens were filmed being beaten, used in sexually explicit jokes, and in some cases, ripped limb from limb while still alive. Mercy For Animals wants to see the company and all of the workers charged with animal cruelty. Check out what I have to say about this and also get some tips on buying eggs from reputable sources!

Kenya proposes death penalty for poaching - In an effort to put an end to poaching once and for all, Kenya is proposing a death penalty for convictions of poaching. Their current methods have helped curb poaching significantly since its peak in 2013 / 14 but they've reported it's not enough. Is the death penalty an appropriate punishment when you consider a species' livelihood?

Animal News Recap - Episode 8

On this episode, I'm tackling animal testing and discussing why it is cruel, unnecessary, and hardly 100% accurate. Innocent animals are subjected to grueling experiments, given horrible diseases, and spend their lives in tiny cages. There's absolutely nothing humane about it and it's time to put a stop to it on a global level.

Also, I'm discussing a story from the Guardian titled, "Dirty Meat". The story discusses an investigation into U.S. meat processing plants that turned up some rather unsettling details. Carcasses piling up due to broken equipment, filthy water flooding the grounds due to meat clogged drains, and meat covered in abscesses and feces. Is any of this surprising? This isn't just happening in North America, it's a worldwide problem! It's time for a reform!

Animal News Recap - Episode 7

12/2/2017

This episode, we'll be once again visiting three different countries with 3 big stories. It's definitely proof that animals need help everywhere and every little bit we do to help them is important!
youtu.be/h77eP_pO_qY
  1. U.K. VOTES ANIMALS ARE NOT SENTIENT - This vote to remove recognition of sentience in animals is a big blow to all of the hard work animal activists have put into animal rights. Removing their protection will ultimately lead to more cruelty, less convictions, and continued lackluster punishments.
  2. TRUMP AND THE ELEPHANTS - This was a very big story when it broke with social media blowing up and stories popping up all over the web. Trump's administration had suggested lifting a ban on elephant trophy imports but Trump halted this to do more studying on conservation. What's there to consider exactly? Elephants are endangered and have seen their populations drop 74% in the most extreme cases. Let's dive into trophy hunting and exactly what I think about its necessity or contribution to conservation.
  3. FIRST EVERY CRUELTY CONVICTION ON FUR FARM IN CANADA - The first ever cruelty conviction on a fur farm in Canada happened recently. There were several foxes that were immediately euthanized, sick mink stuffed into cages 6 - 8 deep, and dogs that were seized. Consider this, he was charged with 6 counts, each possessing a maximum of 18 months in jail and up to $10, 000 in fines. He was given a $5, 000 dollar fine and 75 hours of community service. A very clear indication that animals are not being held to the standard they deserve.

  1. WWF REPORT: Nearly half of Canada's Wildlife is on the Decline - There's plenty of reasons why this is happening and not surprisingly, most of them are man made problems. We continue to destroy the planet and in doing so, the animals suffer the most.
  2. ESA Act Under Attack By Congress - The Endangered species Act was put into place to protect endangered species from extinction. They boast a 99% success rate with listed species yet they're reportedly being attacked by congress. With Trump's denial of climate change and obvious disregard for animals, is this surprising?
  3. The Vegetarian / Vegan Divide - I've been a Vegetarian for almost 16 years and have received my fair share of criticism but admittedly, the worst of it has been from Vegans. I want to dive into this issue and offer some tips on how to handle negative comments!

Make sure to like and subscribe. Leave your comments as well, I'm super interested iin your opinions on the divide!

Loving Animals - A Debate

8/9/2017

Recently, Miley Cyrus spoke out and said that someone who claims to love animals but still eats / wears them doesn't truly love animals, they love pets. Hearing this, I was intrigued and started to ponder this statement to myself. I was immediately pulled in every direction and looked to a few coworkers, friends, and family for answers. Surprisingly, I received a variety of responses which enticed me to do a little clip.

In this video, I'm debating this statement and offering a few supporting facts for each side. I end with my own opinion and encourage you all to comment and get involved in the debate.

Can you truly love animals but contribute to their daily torture, neglect, and slaughter?

Hot Dogs left in car leave Georgia woman charged with 2 counts of cruelty - A Georgia woman who left her 2 dogs in her parked car while she attended a movie is facing two counts of animal cruelty after police were alerted to the situation. If convicted, she faces fines up to $1, 000 and jail up to 6 months. She deserves the punishment but when you consider that a charge of animal cruelty involving severe beating, starvation, or neglect, could bring the same charges, it's clear the system is flawed. I'll be discussing why this system needs to change to punish people appropriately for the crimes against animals committed.

ANOTHER British Columbia chicken facility being investigated for animal cruelty - After a woman walking her dog witnessed what she considered abuse and reported it, a chicken farm is being investigated by the SPCA. This is the second chicken related case of animal cruelty in British Columbia in the past two weeks. There is only ONE solution and I'm going to break it down to you!

Kangaroo killed and propped for photos in Australia - A kangaroo was shot approximately 3 times, tied to a chair, dressed and posed with a bottle of liquor for a photo roadside in a public area in Australia this past week. Police are seeking witnesses for information in hopes of finding the person / people involved. I find it hard to believe nobody saw anything, an activity like this would take time so it's very likely people drove by and disregarded what they saw. Why wouldn't anyone report it? Let's discuss this.

LIVE DONKEY FED TO TIGERS AT A ZOO IN CHINA- Shareholders decided to take it upon themselves to save on animal feed by feeding the tigers live animals. This show of defiance and clear disregard for animal life is not unusual for China and that's the problem! Animals deserve much better and China needs to step things up. Perhaps it's time for other western countries to step up their own animal rights to set an example.

EXTERMINATION OF GREY SQUIRRELS IN BRITAIN - It is believed that the North American grey squirrel is wreaking havoc on the native red squirrel's territory. Red squirrels are dying of illnesses the grey squirrels appear to be immune to so the obvious solution is to slaughter them all. (NOT!) Culling is not an effective means of dealing with this sort of situation and I wonder if they have truly thought this through. Is there proof that without the grey squirrels the squirrel pox will disappear? Let's discuss this!

SADISTIC ABUSE OF CHICKENS ON BRITISH COLUMBIA FARM - Undercover video exposes abhorrent abuse on two separate occasions involving several employees and a supervisor. Chickens were beaten, dismembered, and forced to perform sexual acts on one another. The reported abuse was so bad that viewers of the tape could not finish it. This farm is affiliated with Elite Farms Group who have been exposed for abuse on another of their properties in the past. This is a clear indication that these industries are not being monitored heavily enough. C'mon Canada!

Dear Canada - An Open Letter

www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOKNWHCoCkY
Dear Canada, your country is disgusted with your approach to animal rights. Your country wants to see animal cruelty convictions associated with proper punishments. Your country is ashamed of its animal rights track record. It's time to wake up and realize that animals are so much more to us than possessions, they're family. If our laws don't start protecting our family, we will continue to speak out.

Please Canada, hear our cries. Update our animal cruelty laws and be at the forefront of animal rights. Prove to the world that we are as compassionate and empathetic as we claim to be. Change starts with you Canada, will you step up?

Check out my video and make sure to like, comment, subscribe, and share the shit out of this. I'm determined to see animal rights improved in our country and I need your help!

Animal News Recap - Week 3

This week, we'll be discussing two pretty serious topics;
  • SOUTHWESTERN ONTARIO VET CHARGED WITH 16 COUNTS OF ANIMAL CRUELTY - The ultimate betrayal of one's power, a veterinarian in St. Catherine's is being charged with 16 counts of animal cruelty. Will he get the punishment he deserves or will Canada once again demonstrate its lackluster approach to dealing with animal abusers?
  • ZOOKEEPER MAULED BY TIGER - A zookeeper in the U.K. was killed by a tiger this past week after it got into the area she was working. With so many high profile incidents involving people entering the animal enclosures, when will zoos amp up their security? How many more people / animals have to die for these changes to be made?

Make sure to leave your comments, like, and subscribe to my channel. I welcome your comments and can't wait to chat about animal rights with you all!
