Garlic Press - Yay or Nay

www.msn.com/en-ca/lifestyle/tipsandtricks/why-you-should-never-use-a-garlic-press/ar-AAyo7gc?li=AAggNb9
I use my garlic press often in the kitchen. I love how easy it is to use and I especially love that it intensifies the flavours of the garlic after being pressed through. When you're looking for that flavour, the press is the way to go.

While I was doing some work online, I came across this post that condemns the garlic press. I wanted to touch on their points because I couldn't disagree more!
  • THE TEXTURE IS MUSH - The writer claims that they desire the texture of garlic in their food and the press ultimately leaves the garlic as more of a paste. This is definitely true but here's my thing, if there are other ingredients in your recipe, will there not be texture from anything else? I mean, if you're using a mirepoix (onion, celery, carrot), you'll have texture from that. I've never really relied on the texture of garlic in a recipe unless it was one of the only ingredients.
  • THE FLAVOUR GETS MORE INTENSE - I'm not entirely sure why this would be a problem. I use garlic in recipes because I want to taste it no? Intensifying the flavour is a pro in my books.
  • IT BURNS FASTER - This is true as well but if you're monitoring your pan, this won't happen anyways. Be mindful when using pressed garlic. If it's the first ingredient in your pan, it only needs half a minute before you start adding your other ingredients. Once the rest of the ingredients hit the pan, the garlic won't burn. Also, if it's being added later in a recipe, it likely won't burn either. It's about knowing when you';re using it and being there to prevent it from burning. Pretty simple.
  • IT ONLY HAS ONE PURPOSE - The writer claims that they try to avoid tools in the kitchen that only have one use. Although I agree that there are some kitchen gadgets that take up space and don't get utilized often enough, this isn't one of them for me. I use a lot of garlic when I cook so my garlic press is worth its space in my drawers.
  • IT'S HARDLY A TIME SAVER - For me, it isn't about saving time. It's about extracting as much garlic flavour out of those cloves as possible.

BYPASS OR BUY? - I strongly suggest you own a garlic press. For all the writer claims is not worth it about the press, I disagree wholeheartedly. I use my garlic press often and enjoy how it functions and treats the garlic.

How about you guys? Do you guys use a press or are you with the writer on this one? Check out the original story through the link at the top of the page!
