I can't imagine a bigger ANIMAL WIN than this. I do realize this story is from 2014 but positive news is positive news regardless!
400 Million less animals slaughtered in 2014 than 2007 in the U.S. This is all despite the population growing which is such wonderful news! 9.1 Billion animals mind you, were not so lucky :( With all of the heat surrounding GLOBAL WARMING right now and the known amount of poison Factory Farms pump in to our atmosphere, I'm actually surprised more attention hasn't been drawn to this industry. They are one of the leading emitters of toxic, environmentally damaging gases and it is shocking to me that as a society we regularly pay to have living creatures slaughtered and our environment destroyed. I understand eliminating meat from the worlds diets is a bit unrealistic but if every country in the world adapted MEAT FREE MONDAYS and stopped all meat production, sale, and consumption, on Mondays. . . can you imagine the animals that would be spared? Gases that WOULD NOT be polluting our planet? We have a long way to go before things are at an acceptable level but I can smile at 400 Million fewer animals dying!

Thanks to PETA , a recent military drill in San Diego that would have seen 20 pigs unnecessarily slaughtered was stopped and the contract for the leasing of space was also terminated. This is a total victory!
Considering the advancements we have made through science and technology, it is astounding to me that we still have animal testing, still have dissection on animals, and clearly still use animals for the purpose of killing them. Why are we still using these methods when there are likely more suitable methods available? Glad to hear these Pigs were spared the unnecessary torture they likely would have endured for the remainder of their lives. Going through this list it is so appalling to me that in 2015 we are still working on getting farm animals enough room to move and live while in confinement. What a horrible existence for an animal forced to live under conditions such as overcrowding, living in filth, and injured or sick animals simply lying down and dying around them.. It's just awful! No animal deserves to live like this. We still live in a world where being a woman or gay has you fighting for rights, being a farm animal has you abused and tortured, and being different in any way has you persecuted. It's 2015!!! Looking into 2016 I hope peace, love, acceptance, and vegetarianism all become more common place!! What are your thoughts on animal rights regarding farm animals? New Zealand has now banned sow stalls for pregnant pigs in what is being called a "Milestone for animal safety".
This is fantastic news however as they've mentioned, there is still a long way to go. To think that basically caging up pregnant pigs was to date, considered acceptable is just astounding tome. The world as a whole has a long way to go when it comes to acceptable conditions for animals. In my opinion there should be far stricter penalties for animal cruelty charges and there should be significant improvements to animal welfare in factory farming situations. I mean, in a perfect world, I'd see factory farming done away with entirely as it is basically an industry that tortures animals and is rapidly polluting our environment. That's another story though altogether! Three cheers for New Zealand and this ANIMAL WIN, let's keep moving in the right direction! The FBI announced they would begin tracking animal cruelty cases nationally in 2016. By creating a specific section devoted to animal cruelty they can monitor the number of occurrences, where it's occurring, and whether it's happening more or less in a specific area. They also suggest the more they learn about these cases the better their Intervention / Prevention ability will be which I believe is totally an ANIMAL WIN!
Bringing these cases to light will hopefully inspire the law to adapt harsher punishment to animal abusers as well as up the prevention. If all of this means less animal cruelty, than I'm definitely on board! Check out the article link above! I would like to start off by saying it has been proven time and time again that animals and people don't react the same to the same treatments. This means that testing on them rarely implies similar results in humans yet so many companies continue to force feed, torture, and basically abuse animals in the name of science.
In this case, Kikkoman sauce was reportedly force feeding animals soy and other products, blasting them with radiation, cutting them open, and even decapitating them all to make health claims regarding their products. As it's been proven that results in human rarely mimic results in animals, animal testing is barbaric and unnecessary. I am so happy to announce that after feeling the pressure from PETA and activists around the world that KIKKOMAN has ceased any further animal testing! |
