In a study of 2000 people, it was determined that despite meat sales increasing from 2014 to 2015 that Meatless Meats rose in sales percentages by 3 times more! The study also determined that 1/3 of the people surveyed were eating meat free meats. The Vegetarian / Vegan life is a happier life so the more the merrier I say! This is fabulous news for a variety of reasons starting with the obvious fact that meat free means no harmed animals. That's a win. Less pollution spoiling our ecosystems and less harmful gases being pumped in to our atmosphere. That's a win. Vegetarian and Vegan lifestyles were considered a "fad" at one time so it's fantastic to see how far things have gone. Now, this is not to say that there is not room for improvements. Mandatory jail for animal cruelty is a start. Seeing a reduction in the necessity of factory farming would be great. I think it's important sometimes to celebrate the small victories and any victory for animals is worth it !

The time has finally come! Ringling will be retiring their elephants in May of 2016. This is significantly earlier than their original agreed upon date in 2018 which is even better for the Elephants! More and more cities were passing "anti-circus" and "anti-elephant" ordinances which was making it difficult to plan the trip across the United States. More and more people across North America are turning their backs on animal shows and for good reason, they're not natural. What do I mean by this? Simply put, if you traveled to an Elephant's natural habitat you would be hard pressed to find them performing in the wild. It's just not natural and these poor, beautiful animals were being forced to perform for our viewing pleasure. I think by now we can find other ways to amuse ourselves, no? It is important to note that that their parent company Feld Entertainment, won a significant amount of money in settlements against animal rights groups who were accusing them of animal abuse. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? There are other forms of abuse besides physical. These animals are packed up like props and sent from city to city to perform unnaturally in front of thousands of people. Who's to say the mental or emotional stress and anxiety the animals suffer? At the end of the day, they are now going to be retired and living in peace. What more can we ask for as Animal lovers? What do you all think? Is 2016 going to be a good year for performing animals ? Who thinks Sea World is going to feel even more pressure this year? Here's to hoping that this is just the start of ANIMAL WINS this year! Leave me your comments or FB / Tweet me with your comments ! I'd love to hear from y'all! In this article written by John Semley, it is brought to light that animals aren't used in film as often as they once were. He goes on to say that digital creation of animals in film doesn't give the same authenticity or wow factor that using live, wild animals does. Although this is not a direct ANIMAL WIN I still found the article to be positive news. It is evident that animals are not being used in films as often now and I think this is great news! With digital technology being what it is today there is no need for wild animals in movies. Aside from the obvious fact that wild animals aren't ours to be using for entertainment, it's simply unnecessary with technology available today. Leave the animals in the wild where they belong! I ran across this article and thought I'd share it with you all as well as put my two sense in to some of these top stories according to the TRUE ACTIVIST website. 2015 actually saw some major progress being made in places like New Zealand, Germany, and areas around the United States. Big corporations like Ringling Brothers and Sea World that use animals for entertainment saw a decline in popularity and have been adjusting to save face. I'd also like to mention that Canada was not mentioned once in the "Top Stories" article. Unfortunately, despite being a proud Canadian (most of the time), we are far too lax and unproductive when it comes to adjusting and updating out animal rights / protections law. Let's chat about a few of these stories from this 2015 round up!
# 4 - Hawaii on track to be first US State to ban Wild animals from performing. FANTASTIC NEWS! Think about it, how many tigers or lions are caught regularly jumping through hoops of fire in the wild? Free the animals and let them live the way they were meant to live, not the way we've manipulated and taken advantage of them. Animals are not items for our enjoyment and frankly being that we are now in 2016, it's time to ban wild animals from performing everywhere in the world.
Check out the article for yourselves! Any victory no matter how large or small is still a victory and 2015 saw some progress but we have a long way to go before animals are treated with the respect they deserve across the board.
