I thoroughly enjoyed this article written for The Guardian by Patrick Holden. It is an article detailing the conditions of chickens raised in mass quantities and the effects of these industrial organizations on the environment.
One thing I learned quickly after becoming a Vegetarian was the destructive effect of Factory Farming. It is one of the leading producers of environmentally UNfriendly greenhouse gases. Not to mention the horrid conditions the chickens are left to live in, the emotional and mental stress on the birds, and the amount of natural resources consumed to produce meat products. It's a horrid industry all around. I can't imagine anyone being able to become learned on the subject and still consume chicken. It also details how this mass production has led to smaller, environmentally friendly farms with products that are deemed too expensive. Let's be frank, I don't eat chicken and I would never eat them, but if people are GOING to eat chicken I'd much prefer to see a family run, environmentally friendly farm producing the chicken rather than a destructive, factory farm. There are so many downfalls to eating factory farmed meat. Cheaper chicken aside, it's a deplorable industry that allows for animals to be treated like objects with no needs and a destructive force against our environment. Thoughts? HAPPY VEG

Every day, exotic pets find their ways into our homes and their best interests are not taken in to consideration. Attention has been given to the recent uprising of Slow Loris' as pets and the problems surrounding this issue as there are many. These nocturnal creatures are NOT PETS and more videos are coming out showing the seemingly happy animals being tickled and pet all over YOUTUBE. This is a problem.
Please take the time to visit the link above to learn more about this growing problem. Remember, exotic pets no matter how cute or fuzzy are NOT PETS! They are animals that belong in the wild and often endure distress, anxiety, and physical ailments from being held captive. The moral of the story here is ADOPT DON'T SHOP! Adopting a pet gives them a second chance at happiness. Purchasing animals of this nature is taking opportunity away from pets in captivity that deserve loving homes.
