I am completely appalled to learn of our country's sickening allowance of bestiality. In this case, the charge of bestiality was dismissed under the legality of lack of penetration. This implies that what DID occur was not technically bestiality because of a lack of penetration. How sickening and disturbing that our laws are so outdated and clearly not in touch with the morality of today's society that this situation will slip between the cracks of the law. I have written the Supreme Court as well as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in hopes of having my plea for action heard. Please, take the time to voice your dissatisfaction regarding our animal protection laws. Without speaking up, more animals will continue to be exploited and abused!! SUPREME COURT - [email protected] PM Trudeau - http://pm.gc.ca/eng/contactpm Dear Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, I am writing you to bring attention to an issue that has deeply affected me. Recently, the Supreme Court of Canada in a 7-1 vote decided to dismiss a case of bestiality based on the legality of penetration. This is extremely dissatisfying and frankly, quite disturbing that our animal protection / cruelty laws are so outdated that this would be allowed to occur. This is not reflective of how today's society feels regarding animal rights. Our laws are completely out of touch with society's views on animals and their worth and we need the support of our government to help put an end to these types of situations. With any rule or law put into place, it is there to deter people from committing the described act. Without the proper laws and protections, animals will continue to be exploited, abused, and manipulated. As I'm sure you are very aware, animals are like children. They depend on us to protect them and show them right from wrong. Allowing what is clearly sexual exploitation to slip between the cracks of the law is not in tune with our nation's reputation as progressive, compassionate, and empathetic. Such barbaric acts as bestiality in any shape or form deserve appropriate punishment. It can no longer be acceptable to exploit and abuse animals in his manner. I am pleading with you to revisit our animal protection / cruelty laws. I am asking you to review the legality of these situations and update the laws to reflect appropriate protection / punishment for such heinous acts. Let us update the laws to reflect our nations progression as opposed to taking steps backwards. Thank you for your attention to this very important matter. Our morals are under fire here and it's time to truly demonstrate compassion in the face of archaic laws.

I want to warn you before you click the link above that there are some graphic and disturbing pictures attached to this story. This story hits me hard because it happened in my home town. A woman was busted for running a suspected puppy mill after calls to the humane society by concerned neighbours were placed about the dogs' conditions. After she was aware that she was being monitored, she decided to start dumping the dogs at various spots throughout the city. The dogs were in such terrible condition upon being found including the dogs remaining at her house.
How does something like this happen? How in the hell does something like this go unnoticed for so long? There's so many disturbing questions that need answers here. What's especially saddening is the fact that we have very poor animal cruelty laws and she will likely weasel her way out of a real punishment. I would love nothing more than to watch her cry as she is wheeled away for jail time but that will likely not be the case. Please everyone, spread the message that adopting is the only answer. Purchasing animals from pet stores or from breeders is like digging a grave for shelter animals. There are so many shelter animals dying for a loving home that purchasing from a breeder just isn't right. Nobody should be breeding animals for their own gain, it's twisted and wrong. ADOPT DON'T SHOP! This is fabulous news albeit overdue. These restrictions will basically make it impossible to traffic ivory in any way, shape, or form. This is something that should have been put in place a long time ago considering elephants are on the endangered species list and have been consistently over the years. How can people be so thoughtless when it comes to the ivory industry? They are literally willing to wipe out an entire population of Elephants for ivory. It's unimaginable to me that people could be so greedy but now, at least the U.S. will limit the trade of ivory with new restrictions.
With that being said, trophy imports will remain unrestricted. What's strange to me about this is it's no different to hunt for trophies than to hunt specifically for tusks. It's strange that the restrictions wouldn't of applied to hunting trophies as well. Whatever the case. this is definitely a step in the right direction towards a global ban on hunting elephants for sport OR ivory. These creatures are already endangered, there needs to be a on ban trophy hunting across the globe and let's end hunting as a sport while we're at it! This archaic "sport" is nothing more than people satisfying a craving to kill. How in the hell is using a weapon of any sort on an animal considered a sport? These animals are as defenseless as children when it comes to guns yet this is considered a sport? It's sick and disgusting. O.k, it's great that these restrictions are in place but more needs to be done across the globe to save these animals from extinction. I don't want to see the demise of the elephant in my life time.
