For the second time this year, lions were poisoned and killed by unknown assailants after cutting their way through protective fences at a South African Wildlife Park. 5 of the lions were poisoned and one of them had their paws and face cut off during this horrific event. What a sick and despicable thing to happen to these beautiful creatures on a protected wildlife park where they should be safe from shit like this.
What I can't seem to understand is, what would somebody have to gain from doing something like this? What exactly does this do for someone? In my mind, it's a sick and twisted perversion that makes someone want to do something like this. This person or persons needs to face criminal charges for what they've done and I hope that the punishment when they are caught is appropriate for what they've done to these poor animals. I find myself wondering, if this sort of thing has already happened before, why are there not better protections for these animals? Clearly a wire fence surrounding the property is easy enough to infiltrate and clearly there is evidence that there are people who are sick enough to try and commit this sort of atrocity, so why the lackluster security? These animals rely on the owners and operators of this park to protect them and care for them and unfortunately, they did not hold up their end of the bargain. As I said, after the first situation involving the poisoning of 6 lions, there should have been added security right away. Whether that was in the form of additional cameras and security, or an added security feature that amps up the wire fence surrounding the enclosure, it should have been done. It saddens me to think that there are people out there who get their kicks out of poisoning and playing around with the corpses of lions especially considering these beautiful animals are at risk of going extinct if they are not better protected. Shame on these people and my only hope is that they are caught and handed the worst punishment available to them. Learn more by visiting the link at the top of the page from World Animal News!
