Abuse exposed on Chicken Farm in Spain

An undercover investigation has exposed gruesome evidence of serious neglect on a chicken farm in Spain. Advocacy group Animal Equality along with newspaper Publico visited the farm several times throughout the growth period for chickens leading up to their slaughter and documented the conditions they were left in on their final visit.

• Chickens were found with burnt stomachs from all of the ammonia seeping up from their uncleaned feces.
• Live chickens were surrounded by chickens that had perished from lack of appropriate care / living conditions
• The trough for water was covered in mold
• Chickens were hardly able to move around and the air quality was abhorrent with the stench of ammonia
• Because of the rapid growth of factory farm chickens, many of them had grown so large they could no longer stand ultimately leading to them starving to death.

These horrific conditions are a clear example of negligence at the hands of the farm operators. When you have chickens literally dying from lack of habitable living space, there is a very clear problem. When you have chickens growing so rapidly their legs are giving out, there is a clear problem. When the air is so polluted with ammonia that breathing is troublesome, there is a very clear problem. These problems indicate that this operator has absolutely no regard for the well being of the chickens housed on their property and should be held accountable for the deplorable conditions on their farm. 

These sorts of stories are the exact reason ag-gag laws are wrong on every level. When you have a law that prevents people from exposing negligence and abuse, you are very clearly admitting that those sorts of things are occurring. This farm is yet another in a string of farms that have exactly the same deplorable conditions but have yet to be exposed. Whether it's chickens, pigs, cows, or sheep, animals on factory farms are suffering at the hands of negligent operators every day and without these exposures, nothing will ever be done about it.

Hopefully this operator is slapped with fines and forced to improve on the welfare standards of their facility. Without making an example out of these operators, this sort of negligence will continue and animals will continue to suffer. HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE!
