Another major fashion label turning away from fur

Diane Von Furstenberg is the newest big name fashion label turning their backs on fur with their new collections. Not only are they ceasing fur in their new lines, they are also joining with PETA and The Humane Society of the United States to help end the exploitation of animals used for fur. This is major news for the fur industry and also a big step in the right direction for one of the largest and most recognizable labels in the world. Recognizing the environmental impact as well as the torture these animals endure for the sake of fashion, the company said they can no longer continue to support utilizing fur.

They join a growing list of big name labels who are turning their backs on using fur. The fact is y'all, fur is repulsive. There's nothing sexy, fashionable, or upscale, about wearing the skinned remains of a once living animal that endured mental, emotional, and physical torture right up until the minute it was slaughtered. These animals are confined to the tiniest of cages often times crammed in in multiples, they live amongst their own feces and urine which cause infections that are most often left untreated, and they suffer mentally and emotionally as they attempt to find a way to escape their living hell. Tere's nothing fashionable about contributing to the needless suffering these animals endure.

As these big name labels turn their backs on fur, my hope is that other big name label continue to join in the fight to end the fur trade entirely. One can argue until they're blue in the face about the necessity of meat but there is absolutely no argument for fur. What can you possibly say to defend the use of fur? Our own sickening desire to look a certain way trumps the suffering of animals bred solely for their fur. As I've reported before, these animals are not wholly used, it's not as though they are then used for meat as well. Their corpses are disregarded as trash the minute their pelts are removed, it's a despicable industry that needs to be wholly shut down.
