California - One Step Closer to Banning Cosmetic Animal Testing

California is one step closer to a ban on cosmetic animal testing and importing beauty / hygiene products that have been tested on animals. Supported by Cruelty Free International, Lush Cosmetics, and voted 5-1 in a Judicial Committee, California is on track to ban all cosmetic testing by 2020. This is great news and hopefully will inspire other U.S. states to follow suit.

Cosmetics is one of the biggest atrocities in the animal testing industry. When you look at a supposed necessity for animal testing, how can anyone argue that cosmetics is necessary? 

Cosmetics are not something that humans need in any way shape or form. They are unnecessary to our functionality. Unlike disease or vaccine testing that would benefit the entire human race in some way, (although I am against animal testing of all varieties), cosmetics testing is literally the worst.

These animals live their entire lives in fear. They suffer disease, rashes, blisters, and other skin ailments unnatural to them, all in the name of cosmetics. These poor animals are subjected to numerous tests that frankly, should be a human problem.

I mean c'mon, how selfish can we be? If you want to wear makeup, why don't you figure out if it gives you a rash or reaction? New body wash? Test it out yourself! The fact that we literally force animals to bear the brunt our selfishness is such a disgusting fact. 

I think the worst part of it all is that it's typically more expensive than other methods of testing. Essentially, other options are cheaper and more effective, and yet we continue to utilize animals for our own devices. It's a sad reality in the world of animal welfare.

As the world continues to open its eyes to the world of animal welfare, I see cosmetic animal testing as a thing of the past. We can not continue to support such an awful industry for products that aren't necessary to our well being. Cosmetics should be a use at your own risk product and should never be tested on animals.
