Denmark is on track to cull every last captive mink in their country after it was discovered that the mink not only catch the coronavirus, but transmit it in a mutated form. The discovery indicates that the virus mutates within the mink and once transmitted to humans, makes it especially strong and could hinder the effectiveness of a vaccine. With that knowledge, the largest producer of mink fur in the world will slaughter every single captive mink to prevent the transmission of this mutated form of the virus. The real losers in this situation are the mink who've led their entire lives in captivity only to be slaughtered in such a mass quantity. It's incredibly saddening but also an opportunity to end the fur trade in their country once and for all.
Minks in the fur industry lead saddening existences from the minute they are born in captivity to the minute they are slaughtered and skinned. Undercover videos of various fur farms have exposed undeniable cruelty in the industry. Minks were examined running in circles, repeatedly trying to pull their way through the bars of their cages, and living amongst feces and urine. They exhibited signs of psychological and mental distress at the hands of being not only captive, but watching in horror as other mink are electrocuted, bludgeoned, and skinned. There is absolutely nothing redeemable about this industry and Denmark has an opportunity as the leading producer of fur in the world to take a stand for animal rights and end their participation in fur farming. Can you imagine the impact of the world's leading fur producer banning fur? It would be monumental!
How many animals will suffer at our hands? We're talking 17 million innocent animals that are going to be slaughtered to protect humans, this is not a small number of animals. One can only assume that breeding and restocking 17 million mink is not only timely, but costly as well especially after the loss of their entire country's worth of mink. I can only assume that it would be cheaper to abandon fur altogether and funnel those funds into other industries that are less cruel and exploitative. Denmark has an opportunity to demonstrate compassion in the wake of such a devastating loss of life. It is imperative that they make the right choice and put one more nail in the coffin of the fur industry. Fur is done for and Denmark must get on board! HAPPY VEG
