Another day, another factory farm exposed for having less than stellar conditions. This time, we're headed to Ray-Mar Farms in California where activist group DxE filmed and exposed some gruesome findings on the farm that supplies beef to Costco and In & Out burger among others. The undercover filming exposed what I can only describe as complete and utter neglect and disrespect of the animals and the products that they claim to be proud of. Their findings exposed baby calves sitting in cages barely bigger than their bodies. These poor babies were clearly suffering from respiratory issues thanks to the stench of ammonia in the air. The worst part, a short distance away from where the babies were being kept was a dumping ground for corpses. DxE discovered several cow and calf corpses piled on top of each other covered in maggots and emitting a foul stench into the air which was likely also contributing to the breathing issues the baby calves were suffering from holed up such a short distance away from this graveyard. Despite Prop 2 having been in effect in California now for over 3 years which bans the confinement of certain farm animals to cages where they cannot freely stand up, lay down, or turn around, there has yet to be a prosecution under this law despite several undercover exposures. Californian is one of the states in the United States of America that has truly demonstrated that they have a genuine care for animals which is why atrocities like this are often shielded from the public. Without these undercover busts, these sorts of cruel treatment to animals would never be exposed for what they were.
As the world continues to move away from fur, cosmetics testing, and the banning of the dog and meat trade, we mustn't turn our backs on the meat industry. Factory farmed meat is destroying our planet every single day, this is a fact. Factory farmed animals suffer from the minute they are born until the minute they are killed, this is a fact. If we continue to contribute to factory farmed meat, we contribute to the biggest problem our planet currently faces.
