Europe's first Sanctuary for former Circus Elephants under construction

The very first Elephant Sanctuary for former Circus elephants is under construction in France. With support from various animal welfare groups, Elephant Haven is beginning construction of a facility that will house the elephants in the most natural way possible for them. 

The facility will be like a natural environment for the former circus slaves which will allow them to live out their remaining years as naturally as possible amongst other elephants. Elephant Haven points out that there will be little to no human interaction and that visitors will have an opportunity to watch the elephants from a platform on site. 

Other positive things about this facility include;

• Elephants will never be chained
• Elephants will never be restrained
• There will be NO BREEDING of elephants 
• Human interaction is prohibited

With more and more countries banning wild animals in circuses, I expect this sanctuary to be a big hit. 

I'm so happy to learn of this because there's no denying the torture these elephants go through during their years performing. They're poked, prodded, and abused, in order to keep their spirits weak. They are kept away from other elephants while travelling which causes them emotional stress. They suffer immensely for our viewing pleasure, it's awful. There's so much wrong with wild animals in circuses that it's hard to believe there are any left operating at this point. 

I'm so proud to learn of this sanctuary and feel reassured that these gentle giants will atleast live out their remaining years in an environment they deserve.
