Finland is moving one step closer to a full ban on fur farming after the largest party in Finland historically voted to work towards ending fur farming in both Finland and across the EU. The Social Democratic Party of Finland, whose leader is also the current Prime Minister, voted in favour of ending fur farming in Finland as well as working towards a full ban on fur farming across the EU. This commitment marks a historical change in Finland as it is reportedly one of the largest suppliers of fox furs to the United States.
Several countries have enacted bans on fox fur farming while still allowing the farming of minks. Some countries have banned the production of fur but still allow the import from other countries. This hypocritical stance on fur farming is contradictory to what the general public feels about fur farming. In fact, in various surveys across the globe, 60 - 85% of people surveyed in their respective countries agreed that fur farming was cruel and should be banned. The responsibility falls on the governments of these countries to enact these bans.
Fur farming is despicable and exploits animals to the highest degree. Animals crammed into cages, living among their own feces, often with untreated illnesses and lesions. Bludgeoned or electrocuted to preserve their furs while others watch in horror, petrified that they could be next. There's absolutely no redeeming qualities about an industry that abuses and tortures animals to this degree. As the world continues to move in a more compassionate and green direction, there is simply no place for fur farming as we move forward as a civilization. It's simple, commit to a full ban within a 3 year period. In that 3 year period, governments provide fur farmers money to phase out fur farming in favour of other lucrative and responsible farming, also providing training if necessary to allow fur farmers an opportunity to integrate more smoothly. There's no excuse for our continued exploitation of innocent animals for fur. What was once a symbol of wealth is now regarded as disgusting, exploitative, and gaudy. We have grown as a civilization to recognize that fur is unnecessary and now it's time for our governments to fall in line with our beliefs / morals and commit to going fur free. The future is fur free and every day we are one step closer to seeing the end of the mistreatment of animals like rabbits, fox, and minks. HAPPY VEG
