More Big Brands Turning Away from Fur Products

I've got a good feeling y'all that the fur industry is on the way out. Saks Fifth Avenue joins a growing list of companies that have announced a plan to end fur sales. The plan will phase out all products made from the fur of wild animals or those raised specifically for their fur. The ban will not include down, feathers, leather, or goatskin. The plan will see Saks officially done with fur by the end of 2022.

The fur industry is one of the most exploitative and gruesome industries on this planet. Animals raised for fur live in some of the worst conditions as they await their turn to be electrocuted, bludgeoned, or shot prior to being skinned. These animals spend their lives in cramped cages, unable to move freely and often times living among their own feces and urine. 

Animals raised for fur are not utilized in any other way aside from being skinned. We don't eat fox, coyotes, or minks, meaning that after we skin them, their carcasses are of no use to us. That is what makes the fur industry in itself such a disgusting industry. The fact that we have worn the skinned remains of animals in the name of fashion for so long indicates a continued lack of compassion and empathy for the perils these animals endure in captivity. Not to mention those we catch in the wild are often caught in snare traps that are undoubtedly cruel and incredibly painful. Imagine being trapped, fearing for your life as a nasty human approaches ready to put a bullet in your head. Sickening.

Saks Fifth Avenue will join a long list of big name brands that have committed to ending fur sales in their companies. Some of these big names include;

• Prada

• Alexander McQueen
