Today's battle will see two competitors battle it out for the title of "Healthiest Chicken Choice".
        Janes Whole Wheat Chicken Strips

                                                            VS

ROUND 1 - CALORIES
Janes - 260
Gardein - 250

WINNER: TIE

Both products have comparable calorie counts and because the grams in each serving are a little different I'm going to call this one a tie!

ROUND 2 - FAT
Janes - 13g  20%DV
Gardein - 9g  14%DV

WINNER: Gardein Chick'n

By eating two servings of the Jane's strips you're at nearly half your allotted fat intake for the day. Gardein filets come in under 8g less over 2 servings, go ahead and indulge !

ROUND 3 - SODIUM
Janes - 490mg  20%
Gardein - 350mg  15%

WINNNER: Gardein Chick'n

Pairing either option with a fresh salad would be a pretty balanced meal however I go back to the seconds again. 2 servings and you're inching close to half your days worth of sodium for the Janes.
60mg less sodium per serving makes Gardein the better choice !

ROUND 4 - PROTEIN
Janes - 13g
Gardein - 22g

WINNER: Gardein Chick'n

Surprising? Once again shattering the illusion that vegetarians don't consume enough protein, Gardein Chick'n comes in at 9g of Protein per serving more than its competitor.
Numbers don't lie !

ROUND 5 - VITAMINS AND MINERALS

WINNER: Gardein Chick'n

Look at the astounding difference in nutrients per serving. Gardein Chick'n fliets provide at least 10% or more of 9 essential Vitamins and Minerals. The term SUPERFOOD kind of fits here no?

And the winner is. . . . .

 GARDEIN CHICK'N FILETS

Winning 4 out of 5 rounds, Gardein takes the trophy of healthier choice in this Cluckin Chicken Ceompetition. Enjoy these for your next Meatless Monday ;)

Choices to feel good about.

I love Onions. All of them, sweet, red, white, yellow etc I can honestly eat Red Onions raw with a little ranch dip which may sound extreme, but just try it :P

Check out this article on the benefits of eating as much onions as possible :)

Nutrition Facts Serving Size 1 serving (91 g) Per Serving % Daily Value* Calories 260

Calories from Fat 135

Total Fat 15g 23%

Saturated Fat 6g 30%

Cholesterol 35mg 12%

Sodium 720mg 30%

Carbohydrates 25g 8%

Dietary Fiber 1g 4%

Sugars 9g

Protein 7g

Calcium 2% · Iron 6%

Round 1 - Calories  WINNER: Yves Veggie Corn dog
YVES VEGGIE : 140
OSCAR M: 260

* The Oscar Meyer Meat brand is almost double the calories of its veggie competitor. Actually, the calories from fat in the meat brand are equal to the entire calorie count in the Yves Veggie brand. That's food for thought!

Round 2 - Fat  WINNER: Yves Veggie Corn dog
YVES VEGGIE: 4.5g 7%DV
OSCAR M: 15g 23%DV

* At three times the fat intake per serving it's obvious why the veggie version wins this one ! Besides, it'll definitely stop you from having a second and let's be frank (Like the pun? franks = wienies) , 1 is never enough!

Round 3 - Sodium
WINNER: Yves Veggie Corn dog
YVES VEGGIE: 420mg 18%DV
OSCAR M: 720mg 30%DV

* Too much sodium can be a very bad thing for your diet and both options are a little high however pairing the veggie version with a nice side salad is actually a pretty balanced meal. Oscar Meyer's meat corn dogs are a whopping 1/3 of your MAX daily intake of sodium. No seconds for you !

Round 4 - Protein  WINNER: Yves Veggie Corn dog
YVES VEGGIE: 8g
OSCAR M: 7g

* Both options are very close here but the Veggie corn dog inches ahead.

Round 5 - Vitamins and Minerals  WINNER: Yves Veggie Corn Dog

* Simply comparing the two charts as far as vitamins and minerals go it's alarmingly obvious who the winner is. Yves Veggie offers a variety of vitamins and minerals while it's meat counterpart kind of falls short in that department.

AND THE WINNER IS. . . . . .

YVES VEGGIE CORN DOGS

Well folks it was a clean sweep. Although a little high in sodium these corn dogs provided fewer calories and fat and more protein, vitamins, and minerals. Enjoying a corn dog here and there just became a little easier !
