President's Choice has really expanded their plant-based line with everything from appetizers to burgers & sausages available. I've had the pleasure of trying some of the products from their line and today we're looking at 2 of the ones I recently tried. Let's find out if these are worth a buy or if you should leave them on the shelf!

Vegan Sausage Rolls

Vegan sausage rolls were legit one of my favourite things to eat while I was abroad in Ireland. They had the most incredibly flaky pastry and the filling was juicy, flavourful, and just delicious. I'd yet to see any vegan sausage rolls since returning to Canada so spotting these really got me excited.

They're appetizer sized as opposed to a full roll which really isn't an issue to me. Unfortunately, it all goes down hill quickly with these little bites. First of all, the dough was NOT flaky whatsoever, it was biscuit like and dry which I found off putting. Secondly, I didn't love the filling either. I found it had a weird sweetness that I didn't appreciate and there was no texture to it at all. It was almost like looking at date paste or something, not very sausage-y.

BYPASS

The sausage rolls I had in Dublin really set the bar high for all other rolls and these ones just fell short. The crust was crumbly and dry, the filling wasn't sausage-y, and the sodium was alarming. It was something like 20% for 3 sausage bites which is far too much for a serving that is far too small. Overall, I wouldn't recommend these ones. I'll let you guys know when a vegan sausage roll hits it out of the park like the ones I ate nearly every day in Ireland.

Cauliflower & Chickpea Pie

I love ANYTHING that calls itself a pie, especially if we're going savoury. This one really excited me because it was unique and gave me pot pie vibes from back in the day. Also, I love cauliflower so much so once again, my expectations were high.

The crust was so flaky and yummy, I loved every bite of it. The filling was creamy and delicious and had a slight curry inspired flavour. I wasn't really expecting that because the box didn't really give any indication of the flavour but I was pleasantly surprised. I found the filling to be super flavourful and nice and hearty. Coupled with that delicious crust and we've got a winner!

BUY

You want this product in your life. Like I said, it nailed the most important aspects of its existence. Flaky, delicious crust and a flavourful, hearty filling with just the right amount of flavour. I'd eat this again in a heartbeat and I recommend you guys give it a go. It's the perfect weeknight meal with a lovely green salad on the side and we're good to go. I'm actually thinking about eating this even though it's before 7 in the morning as I type up this post. It was really that good.

JUST - Plant Eggs

I love a good breakfast sammie, so when we started carrying these at my work, I was too excited to try them. Right out of the package, they sure look like little omelets - processed ones perhaps but authentic looking nonetheless. Flavour wise, they were actually quite tasty. I got a little egg flavour but not as much as I would have liked. With that being said, they were pretty delicious and texturally speaking, pretty bang on. Nice and crispy but also kind of spongy on the inside. No complaints.

BUY!
- I would recommend them for sure. Functionally speaking, they're really only good for sammies and served up on their own. I'm looking forward to trying the liquid which kind of gives you more options in terms of usage.

SOL CUISINE - Hot & Spicy Chik'n Wings

O M G. That's all I need to say to accurately describe how I felt when I took the very first bite. Sol Cuisine definitely knows their chik'n products and this one is no exception. I originally tried their chik'n bites which I can confidently say are the best frozen take-home chik'n product I've tried, so I was obviously stoked to get my hand son these. There's nothing not to love y'all! They're juicy and tender, full of flavour, and eerily similar to a real chicken product. My father was particularly fond of them and as someone who still eats meat, I'd say there's no greater compliment.

BUY! - Don't even wait to finish reading this post! Go out and get every single bag they have left on the shelves. You won't regret it!

NUGGS - Nuggets

Alright, this one hurts me because I was dying to try these and originally, I thought they were pretty fabulous. However, I've since tried the Sol Cuisine bites and now I must admit, the Nuggs brand is mediocre at best. After trying them a few more times, I started to realize that there were some things about them that I wasn't fond of. First of all, they're kind of lacking in that chickeny flavour that you'd expect. Secondly, all 3 times I've had them, I've found them to be dry. Not unpleasantly so, but dry enough that I took notice.

BYPASS! - Ugh, it pains me to give a bypass rating on a plant-based chik'n product because they're my absolute fave. There's just better options out there and frankly, they retail at $9.99 here in Canada so when you consider the Sol Cuisine bites are 3 dollars less, there's just no justification.
