Bypass or Buy - Tre Stelle Cheezmade Nuggets

Any time a new nug hits the market, I'm snatching a box up ASAP for research purposes of course. Nugs are kind of like an obsession of mine if I'm being honest; I love them so much. They're easily one of my favourite snacks and let's be honest, I can put away a whole box on my own.

On to our feature product, Cheezmade Meatless Nugs from Tre Stelle. What immediately struck me about these was that they were made from paneer cheese which means they are a vegetarian product. I thought that was pretty unique as most nugs on the market are typically vegan and made from soy or wheat gluten. Paneer is a pretty dense and hearty cheese so I can see how it would make a good meat substitute. Let's chat about the flave.

On first glance out of the box, they certainly looked like chicken nuggets. They were fairly uniform in texture which gives off a processed vibe but who cares, they are processed. K, followed instructions and baked according to the time on the box and honestly, the nugs were looking a little underwhelming. The breading didn't seem to get very much colour and honestly, they weren't super crispy like I like. There was a sort of beige vibe to them but I wasn't ready to write them off. 

Flavour wise, I loved them. The texture of the "chicken" was amazing; one of my faves I've tried. The breading though, it really messed up an otherwise positive review if I'm being honest. I need crisp factor with my nugs and these were an unfortunate let down.

BYPASS OR BUY?

BYPASS - Look, I'm a strip & nug snob at this point in my career and I've earned that right. I loved the texture of the "chicken" and I also loved that it was made from paneer. Unfortunately, I couldn't get over the whole beige vibe of the nugs and their lack of a crisp out of the oven. There's better options out there if you're going for a box of nugs.
