Kala Namak Salt

Kala Namak salt is such a useful product for vegetarians and vegans alike. What is it? It is a rock salt that is traditionally used in South Asian cuisine. It is composed of large amounts of sodium chloride which give it its unique and potent odor. This odor is similar to the smell of hard boiled eggs thanks to its high sulfur content.

This product is fabulous to use in dishes where you want to mimic the smell and flavour of eggs. For example, a tofu based egg salad (this is how I first learned of this product through our delicious egg salad at work!) is taken to new and exciting places with a little kala namak salt. The result is a salad that truly mimics an egg salad without the use of any eggsa whatsoever.

You won't find this sitting on the shelf at your local grocer and might have to search a little to find it. I've seen it sold on AMAZON and it is quite inexpenive so keep that in mind!

I wanted you all to learn a little about this product as I've recently started using it in my recipes and want you all to know exactly what I'm going for!

VEGETA Seasoning Blend

VEGETA

This product is one of my new favourite things! I actually learned of this product through my current job at HEALTHY MAMAS RESTAURANT where we regularly use it in soups.

What is Vegeta?
Vegeta is a blend of dehydrated vegetables and spices and it is regularly used as a flavour enhancer in soups, sauces, and even to season meats and vegetables. It is extremely flavourful and a little goes a long way with this blend. It's a great replacement for seasoning salt in recipes.

Be mindful of your salt when using Vegeta. It is quite high in sodium so if you've already heavily salted your dish avoid using the vegeta otherwise your dish will be extremely salty and high in sodium. Always taste after seasoning to ensure the perfect saltiness.
