On first glance, it was looking a little sad and brown but I refused to let first impressions get me down. The base layer was a "meat" layer with some carrots and onions topped with a perfectly designed mashed tater topping. I dug in to the potatoes first and gave them a taste and unfortunately, they were missing flavour / salt. I then went for the meaty layer underneath and also found that there was absolutely no flavour and no salt whatsoever. Ultimately, the entire dish was kind of textureless and without seasoning or flavour. It was super disappointing because I've had some pretty amazing Quorn products (Those fillets were SO delicious and I eat the veggie ham regularly) but this one just wasn't a hit.
BYPASS or BUY? - BYPASS! Like I said guys, Quorn has a really extensive line so one bypass isn't going to change things for me. I'm still eager to try their entire line but this one was a fail. It was brown and ugly, lacked seasoning, and lacked any kind of texture whatsoever. Don't think I didn't eat every last bite because I don't waste food but my coworker laughed at my food and deep down inside, I wanted to laugh or cry or both. Skip this at the market and go for one of their other products instead! HAPPY VEG

I loved how crispy they got after their time in the frying pan. They developed this beautiful crust that satisfied the desire to bite into something crunchy which is often what I'm looking for. The texture was also pretty good although I must admit, I've had better nuggets in the past from the likes of Yves or Gardein back home in Canada. Also, much like the schnitzels, they were begging for salt, without it they would have been fairly bland. That punch of salt really brought out the flavour which was in fact, quite tasty.
BYPASS or BUY? - I'd say it depends on what you're looking for and who you're serving. If it's just for you, I'd suggest going for the schnitzels. I found them to be more satisfying and meal like when paired with a salad. If it's a late night snack kind of thing, the nuggets will work perfectly. As I said, they require considerable amounts of salt because they are otherwise quite bland but you know what, they definitely satisfy that desire for a crunchy snack and they deliver a plethora of plant based goodness. |
