Some Silk & Smoothie Tips

7/28/2016

I've only recently gotten in to the smoothie game but I've already found a few tips I want to share with y'all. Silk products come in a variety of flavours and blends perfect for smoothieing including Almond, Cashew, and Coconut. Each blend brings a unique flavour to your smoothie and works to enhance the ingredients they are paired with.

Here's a few tips I've discovered so far
  • Always buy the unsweetened milks. Generally, you will be blending them with a variety of fruits both fresh and frozen that can be high in natural sugars. Sweetened milks will make things even sugarier. If you want a little sweetness, try a dash of honey or maple syrup.
  • Pairing the milks properly will ensure your smoothie tastes its best! Almond milk is the most neutral flavoured of the bunch. It is the perfect milk for almost all blending because it doesn't add a lot of flavour and allows the fruit to be the star of the smoothie. Cashew milk is a tad more flavourful and rich. This milk goes best with creamy smoothie ideas including peanut butters, chocolates, and bananas. Coconut milk is a strong, tropical flavour and tastes best paired with fruits like mangos, pineapples, and peaches.
  • There is also a Coconut / Almond blend which combines the best of both milks. It makes the coconutty flavour a bit milder and able to blend well with almost every fruit. Keep an eye out for this one!

At the end of the day, play around with milks when blending to find which milk works best for the job. Just remember to ALWAYS buy unsweetened to avoid a sugary disaster!

Clubhouse Chipotle Sea Salt

I absolutely love this chipotle salt grinder. It has just the right amount of flavour. Subtle heat and smoky flavours are a perfect marriage with this product.

I have used the this salt for cooking as well as sprinkling over freshly cooked veggies and it's so wonderful. Here's a few tips!

  • Be mindful of the additional flavour the chipotle will bring. Taste your dish after every 5 cracks or so to monitor the flavour. Oversalting could muddle the other flavours and make the dish too salty at the same time.
  • I suggest using it mostly as a garnish because it takes a long time to crack out enough to season a dish.
  • It is delicious on corn on the cob, in mashed potatoes, even on sandwiches. Play around with your veggies and use the chipotle salt for a little extra somethin' somethin'.

Clubhouse also offers Sweet Onion Salt & Smoked Sea Salt varieties in this line. I'll definitely be trying them and you should too!

Squeezey Herbs / Seasonings

If you've ever taken the time to analyze all the wonderful products in the fresh produce section of your grocer than you've likely come across this product.

Trudeau Farms is a Quebec based farm offering a variety of fresh & dried herbs as well as other seasonings / blends. They consider themselves innovators in the fresh herb market while also offering fresh vegetables, leafy greens, and more.

This particular line of products under their Marvini line is what I'm sharing with you all. Too many times have I gone to the grocery store looking for particular herbs only to see them sold out or with little fresh inventory available. It's totally disheartening especially if you had a specific meal in mind that relied on those herbs. That is where this line of products comes in.

Fresh herbs in a squeezey tube. Seems a bit suspicious at first but these are super handy to have in the fridge for those days where fresh just isn't available. They are combined with a few ingredients to maintain their freshness (3 months versus MAYBE a week with fresh) and are really wonderful in a pinch.

They pack a very flavourful punch and can be added anywhere fresh herbs would have been added. Soups, spreads, dips and so much more.

They have a variety of products in the squeeze line including;
  • Basil
  • Italian Seasoning
  • Chili Pepper
  • Dill
  • Lemongrass
and so many more.

Having these products on hand is super helpful in a pinch and I strongly recommend them!
