Gardein Pepperoni Pizza Pockets

One thing I want to note right away is the significant price difference between the Gardein Pockets and the Tofurky Pockets I recently reviewed. These pockets are $4.99 Canadian and offer almost double the amount of actual product in the box versus Tofurky's price tag of $6.79. The Gardein pops are definitely a step ahead as far as value!

I absolutely loved the flavour of the sauce in these pockets, it was so sweet and delicious. The pepperoni had an amazing texture and chew which I also enjoyed and the outside crust was crispy and tasty as well.

As far as things I didn't love, I was missing the spice synonymous with pepperoni or sausage. The "meat" was tasty but it lacked that familiar spice I was looking for. I also have to knock off a few points for the vegan cheese. I could barely spot any cheese in the pockets and what I did bite into was more like a cream cheese than a stringy mozzarella. (That's to be expected though with Vegan cheese) Lastly, I found them a touch on the greasy side but not to the point of being unbearable.

Listen, they're great for a snack, inexpensive compared to competitors, and tasty. The pros outweigh the cons in this situation by far so get out there and grab a box!

TIP: Always remember, if the instructions give both microwave and oven directions, always go with the oven. It results in a crispier and all around better tasting product!

Right off the bat it's important to note that these should only ever be a treat or quick snack, they are kind of high in calories and sodium. On a positive note, they are great for fibre, protein, and have a slew of vitamins and minerals.

At the end of the day, if it's a pizza craving you've got these will definitely hit the mark. They are fairly expensive at $6.79 Canadian for 2 pops and not extremely good for you but if you take my advice and enjoy them as a snack when the craving hits then these are definitely worth the buy!

I was particularly excited to try these because as a child, pizza pockets were my favourite food. I would be more excited to have pizza pockets than if my mother took the time to whip up a delicious meal (Sadly). I also was excited because Tofurky makes some killer lunch meat slices so I was anticipating the pepperoni being delicious!

Everything was exactly how I imagined it would be. Lots of delicious cheese and tender, flavourful "pepperoni" slices. Everything was great! I do have to mention though that I didn't necessarily taste "pepperoni" flavour but more of a sausage like flavour instead. It still hit the mark!
