SOL Cuisine - Chik'n Bites

As y'all know, I have a bit of an obsession with "chik'n" products. Nuggets, strips, patties...ugh, I absolutely love them all. That's why I was pretty stoked to try the Sol Cuisine Chik'n Bites. Right out of the bag they're pretty much like every other frozen chik'n product. It's once they're baked that the real magic happens.

Guys, these are by far, the best plant-based chik'n product I've tried to date. They were so crispy on the outside and omg, the inside. So juicy, so tender, and so "meaty", so delicious. The flavour was great but I honestly was so struck by how juicy they were inside. I ate the entire bag in one sitting, all by myself. I can't say it enough, the very best I've tried.

BYPASS or BUY?

BUY! - Buy these. There's nothing else to say. They're the best chik'n product I've tried to date. Even my father was taken aback by how meat like they were. Such an amazing product!

LifeSmart - Meatless Burger

Ever since Beyond Meat came to Canadian markets, it seems that every company out there has their own take on the meatiest plant-based burger. I've had some luck with the competition (Hello Impossible / Gardein Supreme) and some bad luck (Sorry Lightlife), so where does the Life Smart brand fall?

Well, visually, they didn't give me that burger vibe right out of the box. They looked a little processed and fake-ish, but that wasn't going to deter me. After frying them up, it was time to give them the taste test.

Delish! They had really great flavour, retained some juiciness after being cooked, and seared beautifully in the pan. There was a lovely crisp action from that beautiful sear that I can still hear my knife tapping off of. They were honestly right up there with some of the best I've tried. If I had ONE complaint, it would be that the patties were a little on the thin side. This isn't a big deal if you're aware and buy an appropriately sized bun, but if you were to buy too large of a bun, I think you'd be disappointed.

BUY! I'd recommend these and I'd certainly eat them again. There's 4 to a pack for $9.99 which is already more economical than a few of the competitors. They're juicy, taste great, and eat like a meaty burger as intended. Go grab a box <3

BYPASS or BUY - Unmeatable Chik'n Strips

I'm always excited to try a new plant-based brand, especially when the product is produced right here in Canada. UNMEATABLE is a brand that I've recently discovered and currently has a selection of plant-based "meats" that include breaded strips, meatballs, burgers, and sausages. Obviously, I had to purchase the breaded strips because as y'all know, nuggies and strips are my go-to late night snack when I get a munch attack.

Right out of the box, they definitely had that heavily processed chicken strip look in that they all kind of looked identical in shape & size. That didn't discourage me as I threw them in the oven to bake with incredibly high hopes. Out of the oven, they had an excellent golden colour and appeared to have some serious crunch action happening. They also really gave off a "chicken" smell that was pretty close to what I'd expect a real chicken product to smell like. What's the verdict?

BYPASS or BUY?

BYPASS - I hate to be the bearer of bad news but these were not my favourite "chicken" strip on the market. While they had a great crunch and texture, it was the inside "meat" portion that I wasn't fond of. They tasted heavily processed and when I bit through them, the inner portion kept trying to come out of the breading. It's important to note that for the price, ($9.99 Cdn) I was expecting there to be more inside the box as well.

In all honesty, they're not the worst I've ever tried but I think I'd probably grab a bag of the Gardein strips before I snatched these ones up again. That's it, that's my verdict.
