Bypass or Buy - My Best Veggie Spinach and Cheese Veggie Burger

I have to admit, there is a much bigger selection of vegetarian and vegan products here in Ireland than in Canada. I've found some pretty amazing things but without having a freezer where I'm staying, I'm pretty limited in what I can pick up for myself. That's why when I spot a product I can refrigerate and try, I'm super excited.

My Best Veggie is a brand of Lidl markets that was introduced recently and they have quite an extensive line of goodies to choose from including these spinach and cheese veggie burgers I recently tried.  There's two to a package and they're 1.99 euros here which is pretty great considering you'd get two uses out of one package. Let's dive in!
Let me just start by saying that they are absolutely delicious! I literally fell in love with them after the first bite. They're loaded with spinach and melty cheese and once pan fried, the breaded outside gets deliciously crispy which is exactly what I love in a product like this, Crispy on the outside and melty and spinachy on the inside. They're perfection! What I also loved was how easy they were to cook, just a couple minutes per side in a lightly oiled pan until golden brown and delicious and these babies were done.

I don't know that I'd use them as a burger persay because I thought they were better suited to being a meaty main paired with some tomato pasta or a fresh garden salad but that's not to say that I wouldn't try them on a bun, I just feel like they make a better pairing to a side dish as I said. They offer fiber and protein and a good amount of vitamins thanks to the abundance of spinach in every bite. I honestly loved them.

BYPASS OR BUY? - Buy! Buy! Buy! Honestly, one of the bets veggie products I've tasted to date. They were so crispy and wonderful, full of spinach and cheese as advertised, and economical to boot. I am looking forward to trying the rest of their line. Get out there and get you a package and try for yourselves <3

Bypass or Buy - What's Cooking Veggie Burgers

These are actually one of the first take home veggie products I've purchased since arriving in Dublin last month so I was looking forward to trying them. I was unable to find much information about the company online so I can only tell you my opinions of them.

I absolutely loved how crispy they got on the outside because of the bread crumb coating. They fried up super easily and made a wonderfully crispy addition to my otherwise basic salad. Now, here's what I didn't like about them.

I've eaten several veggie burgers here since I arrived and almost all of them are the same with varying condiments. They are almost all potato based with other veggies like carrots, peas, or sweetcorn included. Although they're fine, they lack consistency and also lack protein which is something I look for in a veggie burger. Ideally, if you're replacing a meat product with a veggie one, you're looking for similar health aspects minus the fat or cholesterol. Unfortunately, these patties also were potato based and lacked any kind of texture. When I sliced them, the kind of mashed as opposed to slicing due to the amount of mashy potatoes inside.
They were however only 1.99 euros for a 4 pack which is totally a great value. I also loved that they were neutral in flavour so you could really top them with whatever you wanted successfully and enjoy them. Unfortunately, I wouldn't call them burgers necessarily because as I said, they were more like mashed potatoes formed into patties and dipped in bread crumbs.

With that being said, I'd probably eat them again but might eat them more as a snack as opposed to a protein rich meat substitute. The What's Cooking line also featured some Spicy Bean burgers and a Cauliflower burger that I'm looking forwards to trying so I'm not ruling this company out yet.

BYPASS OR BUY? BUY - Look, they're not burgers, but they're tasty enough, cheap, and they've intrigued me enough to want to try the rest of the line. If you get past the fact that they lack texture, they taste good and that accounts for something doesn't it?
