BYPASS or BUY - PIZZA PIZZA Plant Based Chik'n Burger / Nugs

I'm always excited when a new plant-based product comes out from a leading chain restaurant. First of all, I'm obviously excited because I want to try said product, but also seeing plant-based products on menus becoming more mainstream is exciting in itself. We've got chik'n, burgers, and nuggies, popping up on menus all across the board and I'm happy to taste test and let y'all know whether it's worth a buy or if you should save your $ for the next one.

SPICY CHIK'n BURGER

Chik'n sandwiches are hot right now as every major competitor on the market is putting one out claiming it to be the very best there is. How does the PIZZA PIZZA chik'n burger stack up? Unfortunately, not very well.

The burger comes in either original or spicy thanks to the vegan mayo provided and also some pickles. When the burger arrived, I opened it up and there may have been two little slices of pickle and an embarrassingly minimal amount of spicy mayo. Sadly, it looked dry AF and it most definitely was. The chik'n itself had pretty good flavour but as a whole, the burger ate dry. It was crying out for more sauce, more pickles, and maybe some crispy lettuce? 

VERDICT - BYPASS

Is this a case of old oil, employee negligence leading to the patty being overcooked, or is it simply that dry and unpleasant? Hard to say, but I don't think I'd be willing to try it again to find out the answer to that question. I've had better and this one missed the mark.

CHIK'N BITES

I was most excited to try these because as y'all know, I'm kind of a slut for nuggies. They're legit my absolute favourite snack with some honey mustard or spicy ranch on the side, yes please. After the burger, I really didn't have high hopes but I was pleasantly surprised.

They were juicy and had good flavour with a nice breading that I also enjoyed. The one thing I'd say is that the dip options weren't my favourite. I ended up choosing marinara out of the available options and it was ok, but it wouldn't have been my first choice. There wasn't any honey mustard :'( or even a good garlic sauce / ranch option. regardless, they were tasty and juicy and made up for the lackluster chik'n burger.

VERDICT - BUY!

These were definitely the best part of this bypass or buy! As I said, they were juicy and flavourful & had a good breading also. The dip selections weren't ideal but overall, I'd probably buy them again. I don't know that I'd go out of my way to place an order JUST for the nugs, but I'd happily add them to an already placed order!
